Signing up with CTroads
- Visit CTroads and select ‘Register’ from the menu options in the top right corner.
- Enter your name, email, and create a password. Click ‘Register’ when done.
- Verify your account by following the link that was sent to your email.
- If you registered with a phone number, you will also receive an SMS (text) with your confirmation code. Please note that this is only to confirm your mobile number for receiving text alerts and that you must first register your account in step 3 before you can verify your phone number. You can verify your phone number here
Creating & Saving a Customized Route
- Sign in to CTroads.
- Enter your start and end locations by typing the addresses into the address fields. Alternatively, you may also right click on the map, select a location from the available options, and select whether the location will be the start or end of your trip. Once you have entered the route locations, click ‘Drive’.
- Review the routes generated and select the one that suits you best. If none of the routes provided are satisfactory, you can select the route on the map and drag it accordingly.
- When done, enter a name for your route and click ‘Save’. You will be presented with the option to create an alert for the route you just created.
Creating an Alert for your Route
- Sign in to CTroads.
- In the Manage My Routes table, find the route that you previously saved that you would like to create an alert for and click ‘Create Alert’.
- You will be redirected to the alert creation page. Enter the required information for your route, select a delivery option (email or SMS), and click ‘Save’.
- You will now be notified of any future events that affect your route.
Creating Emergency & Ferry Alerts
- Sign in to CTroads.
- In the Manage My Alerts table, select either ‘Create Emergency Alert’ or ‘Create Ferry Alert’, depending on which alert you would like to create.
- Fill the required fields and click ‘Save’.
Setting Map Preferences
- Sign in to CTroads.
- Simply select the information you would like displayed by default on the map.
- Click ‘Save’ when done.
Saving & Editing Cameras
- Sign in to CTroads.
- Select the cameras checkbox in the map legend.
- Select a camera by clicking the camera icon and click ‘Add’.
- To view and edit your saved cameras, go to My Cameras.
- To enter a custom nickname for your saved camera, simply type your desired nickname into the camera nickname field.
How do I delete my account?
- Sign in to CTroads.
- Click your username on the top right corner
- Click the Delete my account button
How do I deactivate my alerts?
- Sign in to CTroads.
- Hover over the My 511 tab
- Click the Manage Routes & Alerts link
- Click the Suspend Alerts button

CTroads is a website that provides free traffic and route personalization information. Visit ctroads.com to get all the information you need to make smart traveling decisions, check traffic speeds or plan a trip. CTroads will help improve your commute and keep you informed about travel conditions both before you leave the house and while you are on the road.
What information can I get from CTroads?
CTroads provides information about live traffic, weather and cameras. CTroads can give you traffic reports for specific highways.
When can I use CTroads?
You can get up-to-the-minute traffic info in the palm of your hand, you can visit ctroads.com 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Can I access CTroads from my smartphone?
Yes, the CTroads website is responsive and provides an optimal viewiing experience across all devices including PC, tablet, or smartphone. Users are also able save the CTroads website as a shortcut on your homescreen.
How can I save the website as a shortcut on my smartphone homescreen?
iOS: Open Safari browser, go to CTroads site. Tap the "Share" icon from the bottom, look for "Add to Home Screen".
Android: Open Chrome browser, go to CTroads site. Tap the browser's menu button and tap "Add to Home screen".
How is CTroads different from a regular traffic report on the radio?
With CTroads, you will receive considerably more route-specific information than you hear on the news, and you can access the information on-demand, whenever you need it.
How often is the information updated?
Information on the site is continually updated. Traffic information is updated every minute.
How accessible is CTroads for someone who has a vision, speech or hearing impairment?
ctroads.com is designed to meet the accessibility policies of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
How can I make the site look bigger on my screen?
Simply hold down the control key while pressing the plus (+) key. This will enlarge the site. To make it smaller, hold down the control key while pressing the minus (-) key.
Are traffic cameras recorded?
Be advised that the Department's traffic cameras are used for live monitoring of traffic and do not record. No traffic camera recordings are available for disclosure because no recordings exist.
Why do I not receive notifications for Amber Alerts?
The Police are responsible for handling Amber Alerts and therefore CTroads will not be notifying users of Amber Alerts.
Why is Traffic Speed information and routing only shown for Connecticut and its adjacent states (New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts)?
CTroads is intended primarily for Connecticut travelers within the state. To reduce website costs, traffic speed data has only been implemented for Connecticut and its adjacent states. For traveler information on other states, travelers may wish to refer to the FHWA website: https://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/511
How can I reduce the number of alerts that I am receiving?
If you would like to reduce the number of alerts you are receiving, you may want to consider logging in and navigating to “Manage My Routes & Alerts”. On this page you can manage your alerts and delete any of the alerts that you no longer wish to receive. For each alert type, you can also select the Notification Type to limit the types of alerts you receive (e.g., you can select to only receive New Alerts, and not all subsequent updates and Alert cleared notifications). For alerts along your saved routes, you may consider limiting the times of day that you receive alerts, or change the types of alerts you receive (e.g., only receive alerts when there is an event along your route, and not receive alerts for travel time or traffic speed).
How do I give feedback on the website?
You can provide your comments through the Contact Us link, which is located at the bottom of every page on the website.
How do I request access to the Public API?
You can request access to the Public API by submitting a request from your User Profile page.Once your request is approved you will see an API key which can be used to access the API.
